On December 28th, 2012 Sycamore Canyon Academy staff and students, led by Student Dorris, went to Picacho Peak State Park to do trail maintenance and clean up. Students were in charge of removing rocks and brush from the trails. They also gathered any trash along the way.
After the hard morning of work, staff and students hiked to the top of Picacho Peak to enjoy an amazing view of the surroundings. The students were impressed by the local wildlife they saw along the way.
At the end of the day, the students reflected on the great experience they had and, for some, their newfound love of the outdoors. When Student Dorris, the project leader, was asked about how he thought the day went, he said he was very pleased. Everyone participating was very interested and involved in the project, and Student Dorris cannot wait to lead another like it.
